How do I register to vote?

Mail-in forms for registering to vote in both primary and general elections are available at the Town Clerk's Office, as are Absentee Ballot applications.

A person may register to vote if he or she is at least 18 years of age, a United States citizen and a New York State resident for at least 30 days or more.

The voter registration form, which may be downloaded in English or en Espanol, is used when an individual needs to: register to vote, change their name or address (if there is a change since the last time they voted) or to enroll or change their enrollment in a particular party.

If you want to vote in an election, the form needs to be received by the Rensselaer County Board of Elections no later than twenty-five (25) days prior to the election in which you want to vote.  Eligibility to vote will be based upon the date that the voter registration form was filed.
