The Town of Schodack is seeking candidates for the position of Highway Department Mechanic. The work involves performing skilled heavy automotive, construction equipment and mechanical equipment repair and maintenance tasks.  The work is performed under the general supervision of the superintendent allowing considerable leeway permitted for the exercise of independent judgment in performing the technical aspects of the work.  

Minimum requirement Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma, and; EITHER: (a) Four (4) years experience as a skilled heavy automotive, construction equipment and mechanical equipment repair person. (OR) (b) Four (4) years experience of any equivalent combination of training and experience. At minimum a valid New York State Class “B” Department of Vehicles license or New York State equivalent. Possession of license throughout employment is required. Abilities required: Thorough knowledge of automotive and construction equipment repair methods, terminology, and tools of the trade. Demonstrated ability to make difficult repairs to heavy automotive, construction equipment and mechanical equipment. Good knowledge of the geography of the town, good knowledge of safety procedures, traffic laws and regulations. Ability to plan, organize and schedule work. Good motor and hand and eye coordination, manual dexterity, and physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position. EOE.

The Town of Schodack is seeking candidates for the position of Police Chief. This is a provisional position pending passing the next available Civil Service test. Position involves performing as the chief administrative officer in charge of all operations of the Schodack Police Department. The Chief of Police is the chief law enforcement officer in the Town of Schodack and is responsible for enforcement of laws of the State of New York, County of Rensselaer, Town of Schodack, and its subdivisions. Candidates must have one (1) year of permanent or contingent permanent class status in the position of Deputy/Assistant Police Chief or two (2) years of permanent or contingent permanent class status in the position of Police Lieutenant; or three (3) years of permanent or contingent permanent class status in the position of Police Sergeant in a municipality under the jurisdiction of the Rensselaer County Civil Service Commission immediately preceding the date of examination.
