New York is observing the 400th anniversary of Henry Hudson's exploration of the river that now bears his name and Samuel Champlain's travels around the lake named for him. Schodack residents can watch the waterborne events from Schodack Island State Park, where the Quad Committee is arranging a variety of other displays, demonstrations and amusements. Some of the ships will anchor overnight off the park; others will berth at the Castleton Boat Club. Details of the events for June 12 and 13 are on the "Events & Programs" page, with more being added as the date gets closer. And throughout the rest of the year, a host of groups and organizing activities related to Hudson, Fulton and Champlain. Schodack-Castleton Upcoming Events Were 400 Years in the Making

Schodack - Schodack Supervisor Beth Secor and Castleton Mayor Marianne Carner announced today that their riverfront communities are planning free family events to celebrate the 400th Anniversary of Hudson's famous voyage. On a quest in 1609 to discover a trade route, Henry Hudson first sailed up the River that now bears his name.

"We are the proud home of Schodack Island State Park. This wonderful resource allows Capital Region residents to access Hudson's River. When State budget cuts forced closure of the Park last year, in a unique partnership the Town and Village reopened the Park. Our volunteers are the true heroes. With their assistance, the Park was available each day for the community to enjoy," stated Supervisor Secor.

"Schodack and Castleton are pleased to be part of the River Day events that begin in New York Harbor in early June. The historic replica of the Half Moon will sail up the River and reach Castleton on June 12th. It will be accompanied by the Mystic, Onrust, Clearwater, Woody Guthrie and a flotilla of private vessels," said Supervisor Secor.

Schodack Island State Park will host free community events on Friday, June 12, and Saturday, June 13. See Events (updated: 11 June)
