The Capital Region is also a major junction for passenger and freight rail service, and is served by numerous major airlines and some ocean-going freighters. Local and long-distance busses complement uncongested highways. Numerous regional and national motor freight carriers maintain terminals here as do services such as UPS, FedEx, DHL and others.

The following excerpts from IDA documents provide additional details.

The Town of Schodack located in Southern Rensselaer County is ideally situated to take advantage of the transportation corridors that have made New York State's Capital Region a major transportation hub. The Town is intersected by major expressways and other first class roads that offer quick easy access to the air, water and rail terminals of the City of Albany and vicinity. These highways lead directly from Schodack to major markets throughout the Northeast. Important rail routes pass through the Town and both rail and highway bridges cross the Hudson River in Southern Schodack. Scheduled airline and air freight services are available at Albany International Airport.

Running north and south through the Town is Interstate 90 which starts at the Berkshire Spur portion of the New York State Thruway and runs north and westerly to junctions with the Thruway and the Adirondack Northway (Interstate 87) in Albany. The Northway is a major link to Upstate New York and Canada. The Thruway Albany links New York City with Canada on the North and with Syracuse, Rochester and Buffalo on the west. The Berkshire Spur section of the Thruway crosses from east to west through the southern part of the Town to link the main line of the Thruway west of the Hudson to the Massachusetts Turnpike on the east. Routes 9, 20, 9J and 150 serve local and long distance traffic.
