REQUIRED FOR BUIILDING PERMIT FOR A GARAGE OR SHED
We need two (2) sets of plans showing every detail spacing of studs, insulation (if required), if electricity is to be installed, this must be inspected by New York Board of Fire Underwriters, Middle Department Inspection Agency or Commonwealth Electrical Inspector. Illustrate the size windows, doors, etc.
PLOT PLANThis must show the road you are on, location of the house, your septic system, where your well is located, and any other accessory building(s) on your property. You must show on your diagram were the new structure will be located.
If your garage is to be attached to your house, you have to have a 30' side yard and also a 35' rear yard. If the garage is not connected to the house you must place the structure at least 10' from the house and 5' from the property line. No structure may be located closer to the fronting street than the front of the house.
All sheds must be 5' from the property line and at least 10; from the house.
If building a new garage, do you have a existing driveway? If you are creating a new driveway, you must also fill out a Driveway Culvert Application if located on a town road.
If you are connecting the garage to the house, keep in mind the door from the garage to the house must be fire rated and self-closing. Also, the complete interior of the garage must be fire rated sheetrock.
