What do we need to get a marriage license?

The couple must apply together, in person, to any town or city clerk in the state for a marriage license.   You do not have to apply where you reside or wish to get married. Each applicant must furnish proof of identification.   The following documents are acceptable:

·   Driver's license
·   Non-driver's I.D.
·   Passport
·   Military I.D.
·   Employers Photo I. D.
·   or Naturalization papers.

Additionally, the individuals must show proof of birth name via a birth certificate or baptismal record, USA Resident Alien card, work permit or naturalization papers.   If both parties are eighteen (18) years of age or older, parental or judicial consent is not required.   All documents regarding previous marriages must be presented to the Clerk for verification.   The license is issued immediately, but the marriage cannot occur until twenty-four hours from the time of issuance. The license is valid for sixty (60) days.   The fee for the license is forty dollars ($40.00).

How do I get a Certificate of Residency for HVCC?

An application for a Certificate of Residency is available online, here, as a MS Word document and as a Adobe Acrobat .pdf file.   You must provide documentation that you have resided in the State of New York for one (1) year and the Town of Schodack for six (6) months. Usually, your driver's license will satisfy both these requirements.   However, in the event that you have moved, lived in a different town or county, or have a driver's license that does not meet the above criteria, further documentation must be provided.   Examples of proof are: pay stubs with your current address, utility bills, lease, etc. that prove that you have lived at the current Schodack address for the last six (6) months. If you do not have any of the above, contact the Clerk's Office for assistance.   There is no fee associated with obtaining a Certificate of Residency.

Do I need a permit for the Transfer/Recycling Station?

All Town residents can use the Transfer/Recycling Station free-of-charge for recycling. Proof of residency must be presented at the Transfer/Recycling Station. In order to dispose of household garbage, residents can purchase punch cards or pay, by check only, at the transfer station. Punch cards are available at both the Clerk's office (cash or check) and the Transfer Station (check only). Credit card services are not available at either site. For further information about fees and regulations, visit the Transfer Station page.

Do I need a Peddler's Permit?

Unless associated with a not-for-profit group, anyone soliciting door-to-door or selling goods on a transient basis from a stationary site needs to apply at the Town Clerk's Office for a permit.   The permit is good for 6 months from date of purchase. The fee for the permit is $50.00 for the permit holder and $25.00 for each additional employee.

Why do I need to get my dog licensed and what do I need to obtain one?

Why do I need to get my dog licensed what do I need to obtain one? New York State requires all dogs to be licensed by four months of age. Before a license can be issued or renewed, current proof of rabies vaccination must be provided. This information is crucial for the general public's well being. In addition, proof of spaying or neutering must be presented if applicable. If that is not possible, the owner may fill out an Affidavit at the Clerk's office. The fee for a neutered/spayed dog in Schodack is $7.00 annually. The fee for a dog that is not neutered or spayed is $15.00 annually. Tags must be affixed to the dogs collar. If you or your dog loses the original Town of Schodack tag, the cost of a replacement tag will be $3.00. Dog owners who do not respond to the renewal notice will be contacted by the Clerk's office. In the event the owner does not respond after several delinquency notices and subsequent follow-up phone calls, their name is forwarded to the Animal Control Officer for further action. The Animal Control Officer visits the residence for final compliance. If no attempt is made to license the dog after all these procedures, the dog owner can be ticketed and/or fined with non-compliance of State and Town law. During a dog enumeration if your dog is unlicensed, an additional fee is applied to the required licensing fee. Please note that the Town of Schodack has a Leash Law. All dogs, when not confined to the property of their owner, must be under control and on a leash not in excess of 12 feet in length. This is a change from the previous law which stated that dogs had to be confined or leashed only between sundown and sunrise. You may view the full text of the law here. Lastly, if your dog is lost, stolen or dies, notify the Town Clerk's Office. Lastly, if your dog is lost, stolen or dies, please notify the Town Clerk's
